#14: Datchet Police Report, January 2, 2007

Police Narrative

On Tuesday January 2, 2007, Norma Hayward of 33 Oak Circle called to report a possible break-in at her neighbor’s home, located at 39 Oak Circle. Ms. Hayward reported seeing flashlights around the ground floor level.

On the above time and date, I was on patrol duty in the Northern part of Datchet, working from 22:00-6:00. At approximately 2:15, a call came in reporting a possible break-in in progress at 39 Oak Circle. Due to my proximity, I responded.

When I arrived at 39 Oak Circle, I radioed dispatch to ask that the caller meet me out by the street. Ms. Hayward met me in front of her home at 33 Oak Circle. She told me that she had trouble sleeping and had been watching television in her living room. She said she had looked our her window towards her neighbor’s home and observed what she thought was someone shining a flashlight into the windows. Ms Hayward then called into the emergency line.

I went to 39 Oak Circle to conduct a welfare check on the homeowners. I woke the owner, Claire Benoit, and her two children, Madison and Michael deWitt. Ms Benoit stated that she and her children has been asleep and did not observe any unusual  activity.

Since I was the only police officer on location, I called in for additional responding officers. Officer John Everett and I proceeded to do a check of the property and surrounding area. There were no physical indications of a break-in and none of the windows or doors were tampered with. All items around the home were all accounted for.

Lacking any indication of an intruder, Officer Everett proceeded with his regular patrol and I informed Ms. Hayward and Ms. Benoit that I would stay in the neighborhood for a few hours to keep watch. At approximately 4:15, noting that the residents had returned to bed and no additional suspicious activity had occurred, I left and continued my regular patrol.
